Dotspots.com: The Twitter Killer

by gab on septiembre 10, 2009

Ok, it might just be another cool Subject.

But, now that I have your attention, let’s see the meat behind this stalematement.

While Facebook fights a new battle in its long term war with Twitter, silently (kind of), a new startup called Dotspots.com throws a few magic tricks to a world that might not have the attention span required to see besides or further than the what-it-is.

That’s a shame (bad, World, bad!), because the what-might-be is so cool!

DotSpots is an annotation platform that allows users to add text or video comments to any piece of text on the web.

They explain their shit better, go http://dotspots.com/ or go here to know more about them.

So, yea, cool app, but… why twitter killer? Or at least… what is the killing blade?

Well, let’s face it. Any new cool app, like Dotspots.com, might be called a KIlLEr aPp (with trembling fonts). It helps blogs to drive dumb traffic (which is great for increasing ads’ CTR). So it’s a good opportunity to enjoy myself and call Dotspots “An app that will destroy the established establishment”.

Currently the establishments in its field are Tw and FB, and they cannot hope to deserve a better future than their victim’s.

Remember: Twitter was kind of a lazy bloger killer (and perhaps even a RSS killer) and Facebook at least a nice enema for Myspace, so this time is Dotspot’s to kill somebody, or at least rise a couple of million while kicking some Social Media butts.

But, Where is the cutting edge and whom belongs the throat to?

Being redundant: Twitter and Facebook. I’d love to argue why, but you can think for yourself.

Really, dude, what’s the BIG difference? It’s just -yet- another Social Media.

If you insist… Dotspots doesn’t try to pull you into their system of beliefs, consuming your whole person, sucking your life and shit and put it where you surely will regreat later. Actually, it acts just like with the opposite view of things to Facebook’s and twitter’s, which try to funnel you to their services and pages to be connected and feel loved and cherished.

Dotspots gives you the ultimate freedom, and the ultimate playground:

The world
(At least a nice portion of the blogosphere and “webosphere”).

Well… Sure, you will ALSO have a new social media account (yet another) with them, followers / friends (yet again), a homepage like in twitter and facebook (yet another yet) and another lame picture of yourself (yet another opportunity lost to remain in the darkness), but on the other hand: the world will become your whiteboard, and the blogs and sites your graffiti-demanding canvas.

You’ll be able to immortalize your lame thoughts IN the world. Shamelessly sharing your redneck views of the Universe while surfing the web. Recommending shit here and there, without leaving the nice article you are reading. No more need of tr.im that url and copy paste it to write some clever sentence to hide the Porno Pic you want to recommend to some geek friends a Friday’s night.

It’s like… the social media to kill all social media (or unify them, or confuse us, whatever). And all that while giving the blogs and webpages new social tools to fight the damn twitter and facebook back. The war is not over.

Really!

Connect the dots!

(On the other side, it can all be hype. Or hiccups.)

Allez les lapins!
